The Afternoon Play

This afternoon I paid a return visit to the Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica - without a doubt my favourite building in the whole country.

For me, it's the crown jewel of Costa Rica's varied architectural heritage - a shining beacon of design, architecture and culture in the concrete jungle of the capital city, San Jose (Cliched perhaps, but oh so true!)

Built in the late 19th Century, and paid for by a coffee tax (in a time before Starbucks no less!) the Teatro Nacional wouldn't look out of place at the end of a Parisian boulevard.

If you've got a spare minutes while you're in San Jose, I highly recommend a visit....
