Friday 29 April 2011: Carolo Secundo

The oldest statue in Edinburgh, and possibly the oldest lead equestrian statue in UK, apparently. Back on its plinth a couple of weeks ago. Unusual in that it was actually completed within the lifetime of the the Merrie Monarch, as Charles II was known. There's been a fair old bit of Monarchy on today, of course.
My Dad was a staunch anti-Monarchist. The radio would be switched off instantly if any mention was made of Lizzie and her brood. The national anthem got as far as the opening drum roll, and no further. I uphold his values, of course, but somehow it doesn't really bother me that much. Which is disgraceful, I know. I switched it on and stared at it awhile and then stepped out.
