Saturday 30 April 2011: Big Ship - Small Man

There is not only a shiplift here of course, there are also huge graving drydocks. No 2 dock is the biggest in the world, measuring 500 by 100 meters. It is also the dock where on March 27, 2002, a terrible accident happened when one of the caisson sections, holding back the sea, failed. A 12-metre-high "tidal wave" crashed into the dry dock, which took about one hours to completely fill. 21 workers were killed. This 330 m long French tanker will drydock there. Check out the man in the white coverall on her forecastle and see for youself how high this man is standing above sealevel.
