Thursday 5 May 2011: New villagers at the farm

Up at 5.30, which is late for me now.
Collected Lucia at Ungweru, Mary and Casca at the factory and headed for Ekaiweni. School just starting and the meeting scheduled for 8.00 am barely got any steam up by nine. One of the village headmen thought 9.46 was fine as he had to bath!!
Eventually managed to find out who the best farmer in the nine villages were: one male and one female, finally heading for the farm at about 11.30.
They looked at all 108 plant species and got a demonstration of budding from Binna. We gave them the full tour and left about 2.30, with seeds and seedlings. A group of six (learners) will come on Monday for a week.
I have no great expectations but it will be a beginning.
The pic shows Dave telling them about his plot, two types of peas, beetroot, Chinese cabbage and Gem Squash, in view.
A few contacts from the guys who have gone home.
We are still hanging in.
Radio Zodiak did an hour long programme on the Press Day, heard she did a good job. Nothing published by the rest, yet!
