Clay Winning at Ewhurst Quarry...

This is one of four Motor Scrapers that we are using to win (Dig) the clay for the next six months. We will win around 50,000 tonnes and put it in a stockpile to weather for a few months. This will last around six months of production and we will make around 19M bricks.

This machine has two engines one pushing and one pulling, each engine is 20,000cc and uses mega amounts of fuel, but this is the most efficient way to get the clay out of the quarry. The Under blade is lowered to plane the clay in 2" layers of clay into the central holder, it's then dumped on to the stock pile area and flattened of by a bulldozer.

I thought as this only happens twice a year I would post this and not a Blue Tit that I shot this afternoon.
