Wednesday 11 May 2011: peonies' rude pink buds
From the old dry stems of last year's plant emerge this spring's new growth.
These buds, held back for so long by the winter snow, will now elongate rapidly over the next few weeks so that by the mddle of June the peony flower buds will yield huge beautiful blooms.
