Friday 13 May 2011: I wear a demeanor...
441/365: ... made of bright pretty things.
This lyric got stuck in my head the other day and wedged itself there. I kinda like the idea of 'wearing a demeanour made of bright pretty things'. But, I think sometimes it's pretty tiring to wear that demeanour. Bright and upbeat when you feel like hibernating.
*brief interlude whilst watching Maddy 'dancing'*
Well, that sure was gorgeous and ungainly. Angular and awkward. Maddy, however, wisely points out that it's 'really difficult when you're young, but it also makes you happy and it fixes a smile onto your face. But, if you're a boy, then you have scarecrow arms'
All you need to know about ballet, I think.
Anyhoo - the waffle about bright demeanors and all that is my way of saying that I'm knackered and putting the demeanor to one side for a bit! I'm so glad it's Friday. Still have a ton of work to do this weekend... but no meetings and a bit of time off being the 'proper' me and getting to be just me instead. Next week is even busier (two full days of meetings, then three days of meetings in Greece)... so I'm preparing by pretending that's not going to happen and taking advantage of all the yummy that's ready to pop in Saturday and Sunday.
Techie stuff:
Oh, and since people liked the techie stuff yesterday - today's techie stuff... 28mm prime, backlit (but that's just a poncy way of saying the sun was coming through a white curtain behind the flower!) and spot metered off the main part of the flower (i.e. use spot metering, point it at the bit you want to properly expose, half press the shutter, then use the exposure lock button to freeze the exposure settings). Take the shot and the flower is exposed and the background deliberately blown for a high key 'on white' image. Oh, and a wide aperture (f/3.2) to get a narrow depth of field as I liked the hairy detail of the underside of the petal and wanted the stem soft. The ISO is kinda high because I was only able to take the shot when I got home from work and the natural light available was pants!
If you want to see the difference lighting and composition can make, this is the same flower I blipped two days ago. Same flower, same location, two very different shots.
PS Grief - I just made that all sound super dooper complicated!
PPS It was just a very quick shot - honest! The spot metering and exposure locking takes seconds as do the choices about aperture etc.
PPPS I'm making this worse... right?
PPPPS I promise I won't do the scary techie stuff tomorrow. I've even scared myself!!
