Saturday 14 May 2011: Maddy doesn't do parties...
442/365: ... can you tell?
Chose this shot not because it's artistically wonderful or technically fabulous... but because some how this is so very Maddy Moo. Everything going on around her, and her looking like a rabbit caught in the headlights. And ironically clutching a card which says 'Mr Happy'.
Gotta love her. She spent the entirety of the party welded to me. It wasn't actually a party that she'd been invited to, it was a little friend of Felix's and he had a blast - dressed up as a pirate kitten (the theme was pirates but his only concession to 'pirate' was an eye patch and a bandana - he really wanted to be a kitten!) and played his socks off. She was just in 'that place' which means she can't and won't break out of her shell. She'd decided she wanted to be a rabbit. Which went well with the theme... ermm...
Oh, and about the pirate thing, I did ask Felix if he wanted me to draw a moustache on his face. 'No', he says very definitely. Then adds 'you don't need a moustache drawn on your face'. 'Well, I'm not a pirate', I reply. 'No' he continues peering closely at my face, 'you've already got one'. The bloomin' cheek! Pfff!
Anyway, been a busy day. Nick's been out all day doing some work on a sculpture so I've been 'parent-in-charge'. And I didn't half struggle as last week was a real drainer of energy. This morning felt like a slow start although I did take the kids to the shops to get some clothes and then on to the garden centre where we picked up a couple of plants. Got home, planted some cabbages, did a spot of weeding and sowed a few seeds. Then lunch... then party prep and off out to clingonsville.
Which added up to a busier than busy day and by mid-afternoon a migraine pounded.
Got home from the party and I collapsed in a heap - but the children were absolutely brilliant and gave me enough space whilst I was feeling dreadful.
Wish I'd been able to be a better mummy to them today. It's been a 'keeping going by clinging on with my fingernails' kinda day.
PS Something tells me I need to slow down...
PPS A pile of marking to be tomorrow tells me that I can't. Aaargh!
PPPS A couple of people commented about my going to Greece on yesterday's blip - it's nothing fun... the University of Sheffield has a Faculty based in Thessaloniki, so I'm going there for oodles of meetings. I shall dream of holidays instead!
