If You Want To Write A Poem About The Moon

If you want to write a poem
about the moon
don't invent a meeting with a lover
in June.

Make it sooner.

Moons wax and wane.
Get in while it's up there, bright.
Make the most of the light.
And if it goes all right
you can meet again.

You won't need the moon.

And, for god's sake, don't liken it
to a ball or a big white balloon.

And don't rhyme it with June.
Obviously.

And please,
don't mention cheese.

if you want to write a song about the moon
