Rhododendron, Tarbert, Loch Fyne

We are now getting into the Rhododendron season in Argyll. They flourish here in the peaty soil and seem to love the damp days , such as today. The roads will shortly be lined with the ubiquitous purple flowers of Rhododendron Ponticum which is a nuisance and officially an invasive species. Of course all rhododendrons are , technically, invaders but some - like this one in a garden in Tarbert seen on the way back to the ferry - are supremely beautiful as well.

(But I didin't realise until I had posted this that my entry on the same day last year was also a Rhoddie - coincidences do happen, but also it proves their pervasive presence here at this time of year !)
