Their First Opera

It was kind of a big hassle and not an inconsequential expense, but I think a pretty big success to take Tatum Niklas and Oskar to their first opera today, the Magic Flute. it was family matinee in Seattle and kids were cheap - the rub was that you had to buy one adult ticket per child, so we had to twist one parent's arm. Son #2 was elected. (H and my great love hasn't exactly rubbed off on our sons --so now we're going for the next generation :-) ) Mozart is rather long winded so we weren't sure how they'd do. Oskar fell sound asleep 20 minutes (only) before the end. Niklas dozed, Tatum fidgeted. But they made it with much clapping at the end! We had seen this production already at our regular time Wed - It's not my favorite production of this opera - altho i really liked parts of the Egyptian-like theme for this fantasy land. The double picture had to include (and record) the 3 at intermission with their cookie snack and T with one of the monkeys who were entranced by Tamino's flute. The boys wouldn't get close.
