Salisbury line Adult Ed Class meet the Farm

Today nineteen students of the Adult Education Class from Salisbury Line (relocated to St John of God's) visited the farm for a day out. Mary organised it with the teachers, Miriam and Casca. They arrived dressed up in their best and looking wonderful and for some of the poorest and most deprived women I know, they were amazing. As you can see many had babies, but no problem to them.

The staff gave them the grand tour, where they tasted everything that could be eaten raw, which included beetroot, carrots, passion fruit and radish. The women, Mary, Joyce and Alinipher prepared a wonderful meal of nsima, broad beans and a relish of chinese cabbage, onion, tomato and boricole. Looks like they ate two 25 litre buckets of nsima. Anyway they really enjoyed it, practised their English, and brought home one orange seedling each to plant.

Next week Alinipher and Benidicto will begin work in a local garden to teach them how to begin their own gardens.

Great people, great day.
