An Apple a Day...

Flood

This was an interesting day. Over night, the torrential rains continued and we got an early morning phone call informing us that the river had flooded, the road was washed out, and the bridge was closed. We were trapped in our vacation town until....further notice.

We drove up to where the line of cars was beginning to form and parked. And turned off the car. And went in search of food and entertainment. It was Sunday and Mother's Day and with a flood the only things open in town were the Hanalei Liquor Store and the Taco shop. I don't love tacos but I was desperate. I do love liquor but that is another story for another time.

Long story short, our car was parked in line for 7 hours while tourists and locals alike all speculated, passed rumors, and checked the internet for information from a graph charting the river's height from some unknown location. Finally they led us all through in a caravan and I drove us to higher ground while Mr. Apple took these pictures.

Again, no snorkeling today for obvious reasons. We checked into a fancy resort hotel (very different from our rental house in Hanalei) but it was a good day for a swim in an infinity pool and a glass of wine in a jacuzzi tub I must admit.
