Thursday 19 May 2011: The Euro

Greece is getting a right beating at the moment. All seems to be centred around the fact that it's part of the Euro. Apparently it's dragging other Euro economies down.

It's worth noting that civilisation as we know it has come from Greece. At least the western world that is. She has has survived for thousands of years without the influence of other countries, and she could again. It's beauty, solid character and traditions are unchanged unlike many other countries in Europe.

Personally, I miss the Drachma. It was a great currency, but member states of Europe would have promised the riches to Greece if it joined the Euro. "You want a loan, no problem. You're part of the Euro now. Part of the club". I think it did then, and does now split opinion amongst Greeks as to whether the Euro was good.

I dislike politics. But just wanted to say something. Greece is not the only one to blame in Europe. I think it's one of the scapegoats.

On a lighter note "Ma Biche" is back in Symi tonight. What would you call your yacht?
