Saturday 21 May 2011: Coffee & Cake at Earth & Sky Cafe

Well, we have had a mighty fine day.....and a bonus is that we are still here, hee hee.

We decided over breakfast to take our visitors up country & into the McKenzie Basin to Lake Tekapo and Lake Alexandrina, a one & half hour drive from here.....not a cloud in the sky, no wind just a premo day.

We stopped at various places on the way, finally arriving at Lake Tekapo for a picnic lunch on the shore of a beautiful lake Tekapo.....visited the hot pools and watched the ice skaters as well. Drove maybe 15 minutes to Lake Alexandrina, a small lake, a fishermens paradise where no powered boats are allowed.....tranquility. We wandered around the shoreline for a while, then made our way up Mt John. Up on the top the view is magnificent, it is a world class observatory, first started by the Americans many years ago and now run by the Canterbury University. Brilliant, and this where we enjoyed a coffee & cake. The lake on the left is Lake Alexandrina and the larger one on the right is Lake Tekapo.

I have put five images in my folio which are worth a look if you have time......they show of the beauty of the area I think!!
