Monday 23 May 2011: Water Is Not For Man Alone

Went out for a walk in high winds and driving rain, returned in blustery sunshine. Wild day.

I've often been intrigued by these stones at Stedfastgate, next to the Warriston Path. Turns out they're from the Sinclair Fountain, which used to stand on Princes Street until 1926.

As well as the Water Is Not For Man Alone inscription on this side, there are two other faces; one says Drink And Be Thankful, the other A Blessing On The Giver.

Sadly though, the only water was falling from the sky.
