Southport

Southport is a seacoast town situated at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. In spite of some greedy people trying to destroy its ambiance by attempting to build high rises on the water or turn waterfront into a mega seaport, it remains a charming place to visit or live. The bad economy has helped keep things the way they are.

It is quiet this morning and quite sultry. The many late 19th century and early 20th century homes guard the waterline, seemingly unfazed by the many violent hurricanes that have visited over the years. Although the fishing industry has for the most part left, there are a handful of fishing boats that return with their catch every day. While much of it is shipped to New York, the very best is served fresh at some of the local restaurants. I like Southport.

And a warm thank you to all who sent their congratulations to me on my anniversary yesterday.
