Saturday 28 May 2011: TIGHT FIT

My sister and I took a drive up to Settle today so that we could look at an art exhbition by one of her friends.

It was a slow journey as on the way we had to wait in line to pass two convoys of gypsies, with horse drawn caravans, on their way to the Appleby horse fair. Driving in that vicinity at this time of year means you are sure to encounter the gypsies on their way to the fair so I just couldn't understand the impatience and disregard for safety that some drivers displayed.

I have to say that my sympathies are with the gypsies at the moment as one of their stopping places (Kirkby Lonsdale) has 'banned' them from making camp there. It is the horses I feel sorry for as they need food and rest after such a long trek but it seems that the poor things have to keep going to a location that has residents who are more tolerant of different ways of life.

This shot was taken in Settle. The house is tucked away down a side street.
