Whilst giving money to some organisations is unpleasant, sometimes the amount of money more which would have to be given to someone else for the same thing is so great that it overwhelms the sense of shame and uncleanliness. It also provided a reason to pop out for a wee trundle at lunchtime, albeit one of which the fresh-air-ness was reduced by having to breathe in the results of a knackered-engine taxi trying to overtake a knackered-engine Firstbus up an incline.
