Tuesday 31 May 2011: How Queen Margaret University began

I bought this little book of plain cookery for pence recently, intrigued that it was for a cookery school in Edinburgh.

On doing a little searching, I've just been astonished to find that this school The Edinburgh School of Cookery and Domestic Economy was the forerunner of Queen Margaret University. Fascinating reading.

The book doesn't have a publication date but has an illustration on the cover that is an art nouveau style.

The recipes are very varied. One that intrigued me is hominy pie - which apparently is like American grits!

If you've a moment, I'm collecting food memories on my blog at the moment. Do stop by!
