Tuesday 31 May 2011: Edinburgh Old and New Town
Edinburgh Old and New Town is the title of a print by the remarkable Ricky Demarco which hangs in my office in St Andrews House. It was given to me by Ricky himself when I visited Skateraw with the then Culture Minister Linda Fabiani - I was Environment Minister at the time. I feature it today because we are in Ricky's 80th birthday year, and I have just received in the post an invitation to an exhibition of his work being hosted in Scotland House in Brussels this month. And also because, whilst Skateraw is no more, I understand a new home has been found for the archive at last. Edinburgh and Scotland owe that to such a amazing , influential and unique figure.
