Saturday 26 February 2011: Restoring power
A huge amount of activity going on in the fields behind our place this morning. Orion were putting in new temporary power lines. The speed that these went up was incredible. The pile between the two trucks is old landfill. The field is the site of the old Christchurch city rubbish dump which closed around 25 years ago. Once these piles were unearthed, it wasn't long before the stench of rubbish was noticable. The more power poles that were put in, the more the stench grew. However, at a public meeting with the CEO of Orion, Roger Sutton a week later, T raised this problem. A couple of days later, the piles, and the stench were gone. Got a problem? Take it to the top! Now he's leading the Earthquake recovery. I think he's a good choice for the role.
