Strawberry Thief

I had been keeping my eye on the strawberry patch as the first ones were turning red.

Last year we noticed that the strawberries were not very flavoursome so this year we took out the old plants and replaced them. It means that we won't have such a big crop this year but from the first pick they do smell very juicy. (Can't taste until my daughter comes in from school).

This morning I noticed that the net had been disturbed and that the mat underneath them had been pushed up. We were speculating as to the size of the intruder as the amount of displacement looked too much for a little mouse to be blamed. Then we saw the culprit. The dog. Roxy has never bothered about the strawberries before so I don't know what has triggered her interest this year.

We thought it best to pick the first four that are ready for eating as we were getting tired chasing her away from the patch. Will need to keep an eye on her.
