Wednesday 15 June 2011: Lone Fly
Too tired to go far tonight, walking the dog was an effort. Not sure if it was the late night last night, the 4 hours sleep or the busy day at work, whatever it was a backyard safari with the macro was the order of the night.
Macro photography is such a different discipline to landscapes, it's tempting to just get in as close as you can and forget about the composition, even more so with subjects that are likely to be gone at any second like this fly. You have to try and reign yourself in, lose the fly if you have to and try and compose a proper shot. Doesn't always work so you do get quite a low strike rate of decent shots, especially with a the very shallow DOF even at F22 on a macro lens. Very satisfying with you get a good one though, it almost like looking into a minature little world.
Shot with a Sigma 105mm EX Macro and Marumi ring flash.
