Uplawmoor Station

My journey to/from work vaguely follows the route of the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway which runs from Cambuslang to Ardrossan. The section north of Neilston is still open and was electrified in 1962.

Uplawmoor station was closed in 1962, however the tracks remained until 1964, when the last train - the Royal Train hauled by Flying Scotsman - was stabled there overnight with the Queen Mother on board.

Forty seven years later the station is overgrown, although the platforms are still visible.
