Kinda Horrigans

Sunday 19 June 2011: Could you please...

478/365: ... stop being that kid.

You know. The miserable one who won't join in. Who gets ready for a party with a chorus of 'I don't want to go' on repeat. Who clings to my leg. Then to her Daddy's leg. Then won't make eye contact with anyone. And won't eat any party food. And certainly won't relax. Or smile. And will try not to have fun.

And certainly won't show everyone what a cool little girl you are and how bright and funny and joyful you can be?

Could you please stop being *that* kid and be a bit more of you when we're out and about at parties??

Okay, so this is just one other bit of your personality, but why do parties have to be so much work for you? At least one parent always asks me 'is Maddy alright?' or says 'she always looks so sad'. But she isn't. And she's fine. It's just one of those things.

For all that this is (another!) miserable photo of Maddy, on balance it's been a good day. We had one of Felix's friends over all day and they had a blast. I baked Welsh cakes with Maddy and made a Matar Paneer ahead of time for our dinner. They played some more. Then got dressed up as pirates (or pirate kittens in Felix's case - and a cat in Maddy's case - they don't *do* themes very well!), then went to another friend's house for a party.

Busy, busy! The latter friend lives in the middle of Sherwood Forest and it's heaven for kids. And for treasure hunts in the woods. Which I think I enjoyed more than the kids if I'm honest! That's not to say that they didn't enjoy it - even Misery Moo like it - but it was loads of fun! After that, an afternoon of chatting while the kids did more playing. Bouncing on trampolines, swinging on rope swings in the trees and feeding the lambs too (the birthday boy's mum is a shepherdess hence the lambs!).

A nice Sunday. A really nice Sunday.

PS You wouldn't know it to look at Maddy's face, would you?!
PPS I did take better photos - but they weren't of my kids and so I can't blip them. Curses!!
PPPS Lit a candle for my Dad today. xx
