Progressions of Power

Evening all,

Well another late evening blip, one that i actually took about 10 o' clock this morning but haven't got round to posting until now.

Its one of those blips that will date me as a person and one that is best viewed with spectacles of a rose tinted hue and a slice of nostalgia...

Here goes, its not about the advances in technology, i totally recognise and embrace as many aspects of technology as i can safely understand, from light switch to laser, space hopper to space shuttle, progress is progress and the only constant is change...i know all that.

But, God i miss the feel of an honest to goodness album, the thrill of going into town after saving up for ages to be able to afford it, searching through the racks and agonising over which one to buy, and then, choice made, the feeling of pride and excitement and ownership when you left that shop with your purchase safely hidden in its plastic bag..

And, unable to wait, you open this bag of delights on the bus, and stare open mouthed at the beauty of it, the feel, the touch, the smell, and the glorious glorious artwork and design of the album cover and its inner sleeve, marvelling at the layout, single albums, gatefold sleeves, free posters, photo jackets, coloured vinyl, graphic design of the highest possible quality,

if you picked the right album you could find yourself owning your own mini art collection, art accessible to everyone, art affordable to most, and art that bent the corners of young people's mind more than a room full of Da Vincis ever could...

The artwork, for me part of the very heart and soul of an album experience,and part of an adolescence that has long kissed goodbye to the fading lights of the last bus...

From album to cd, from cd to ipod, from ipod to download and now from download to sd card...

its new , its progress, but it ain't art and i doubt it'll invest future generations with the wonder i once felt when the music attracted my eyes as well as my ears with a sense of freedom,excitement and a new art riot.....

(p.s to me...Its a 'triumph' album not a song title but lets face it, who else is going to know, i can only remember it cause....i liked the cover!!)
