Engine Room

Enough outside pictures now. This is inside and the beating heart of our ship. The engine room and it's main engines. We have two 16 cylinder M.A.K. engines of 6.000 horsepower each. At 'Full Ahead", these engines produce 150 metric tons "Bollard Pull". That means that we can give a 150 tons pull on our towwire. Even if you take the age of our ship into account (25 years), we are still considered as a very powerful and serious tug. Just have a look at some more figures and you'll see. When operating "Full Ahead" these engines consume every 24 hours in total 52.000 litres of diesel oil. That's an awful lot of fuel and with the fuel prices going through the roof, a serious daily price tag as well. Right now, with the weather getting a little bit more european style, our powersetting is almost 80%. That means our main engines are consuming 42.000 litres of fuel every day. To keep these engines running and in tip-top shape, technical attention is needed, and that is exactly what our second engineer Rieko is doing here.
