Tuesday 21 June 2011: Aubergenius
480/365: I don't even know why I'm using that as a title. I thought of it. It stuck in my head. Part of my head went 'that's stupid'. The other part went 'yeah, really stupid'. Then my husband started hoovering and I was unable to think of anything further and couldn't be bothered to change it. Aubergenius it is.
This, by the way, is a shot of my first baby aubergine which I'm sadly proud of. At least it's surviving. The cauliflowers I planted on Sunday all got eaten today. They were there this morning when I went to say hello to my peas (yes, really - I like to say hello to my veggies of a morning - my aubergine pride is but a tiny element of my vegetable-based happiness)... and this evening when I went to have a look... gone. Stripped completely. Well, two survived which I'd planted elsewhere so perhaps it was birds which did the scoffing??? Two scarecrows and a couple of windmills... and to no effect. My cauliflowers are now ex-cauliflowers.
Humph!
Other highlights of today? Attending a fire training lecture which bored me rigid and came complete with 20 year old video (think highlights, hairspray, A-line skirts and over-acting and you're getting the picture) for illustrative purposes. Plus, for added enjoyment, more bullet points than you could shake a stick at and a woman reading them out who was the epitome of disinterest yet barely seemed to pause for a breath as she galloped through each slide. Like a trip back to the PowerPoint hell of the 1990s. But without the novelty factor. The best bit of the session was signing the attendance sheet so that I never have to go again! :o)
Hooray!
Actually, the best bit about the fire safety lecture thing was going out for lunch afterwards with a colleague and getting asked to taste-test a yummy lemon tart by the owner. Now *that's* the kinda job I think I was destined to have! Plus, we deserved it after sitting through a turgid hour or so of 'training'.
Right. My head is full. And needs to be placed on a pillow for safe-keeping until the morning.
PS How come the longest day of the year also has to be the most trying???
PPS The kids have been making balloon animals.
PPPS Mutant balloon animals.
PPPPS This Aubergine looks a bit like a face with a big nose... I really am *very* tired...
