That Will Do!

Arctic Skua

Up early to finish packing before it rained then set off in good time to catch the 11.00 ferry at Toft. While we waited in the queue an otter ran across in front of us and into the sea! Our first sighting.
On Yell we took the Eastern route past the Old Haa at Brough, then proceeded to the ferry for Unst at Gutcher.

On landing we saw notices that there was a farmers' market at Baltasound so dashed up there, in the pouring rain, to join the locals purchasing meat, veg, and baking. We sampled and bought from an artisan cheesmaker, originally from the South of England, who is curently expanding his production.

After a cuppa (and generous selection of cakes) we headed down to our accommodation in Westing to unpack and rest before a short wander down the track. Here we saw our first Arctic Skuas and heard the plaintive piping of a Dunlin. There were Ravens around, too, apparently feeding on the cadaver of a sheep on the opposite hillside.

Watched Songs of Praise on TV and crashed out for the evening.

Backblipped after return from holiday.
