pond dipping

Master Pink doing some pond dipping at Fingringhoe Wick nature reserve today. It was his school trip today and they went to the nature reserve for mini beast and bug hunting. First up was pond dipping, which was good fun, although I think our group caught the most pond weed!We spotted some dragonflies darting about and some ducklings and their mum.

After the pond dipping we went for an early picnic lunch. Then off to the woods for mini beast hunting! Master Pink had his friend, found a millipede, centipede, and lots of red ants to look at by rolling logs back, and looking under stones. We returned all the creatures to their homes, after we'd had a good look at them under the magnifying glass.

Then to sweep the meadow. using more "nets" made from cotton canvas we took it in turns to seep the long grass, to find creatures that live in the meadow. We weren't too successful, we'll blame the rain that may have frightened the creatures away. One of the other mums found a grasshopper and donated it to us to look at. He was a fab little fellow.
