Hawkshead & the Langdale Fells

Took Granny out for the day to Hawkshead. Kate, Jem and I went to Hill House, once the home of Beatrix Potter, which was rather busy but quite interesting. Lunch and a potter in Hawkshead, then a wander round the very interesting parish church, St. Michael and All Angels. It contains some fascinating late 17th/early 18th century murals containing scripture verses - restored in the mid-19th century, though some were lost entirely. It also has an impressive weather vane, a golden angel slaying a black dragon.

On the recommendation of two blippers at different times, we paid a visit to the rather unusual and quite remarkable wee tea shop/shack outside Grasmere, and took the obligatory photo of the beautifully painted rowing boats. I can now see why I was told it was the best tea in the Lakes....

The day ended with a wander up Castlehead to enjoy the spectacular evening views over Derwentwater and the fells, including a nice clear view of Scafell Pike.
