Friday 8 July 2011: Winged Soul

Isn't it funny that a visit to a graveyard can actually help to cheer you up?! Maybe the fact that you're still alive and kicking while the same is not true for the other inhabitants is the secret. I was back in West Linton graveyard and spotted this image of a winged soul that I never managed to see last time. The gravestone dates back to the 18th Century and it looks like the stonemason who made it was not entirely sober at the time. There is a distinct list to the sculpture. Wonder if he had any complaints. Even if he had it did apparently stay in place. And by the way the soul did not use that chimney to go upwards. That belongs to a neighbouring house but I loved finding it there after I had taken the picture. As if it was all meant to be!
