Inge's birthday party

Inge's birthday isn't until August 24th, but since that's in the summer vacation and Inge really wanted to have her first kid's birthday party, we had her party this afternoon. It's the last week of school so having the party any later would not work. Inge invited five of her classmates: four girls and one boy. We all had a wonderful time this afternoon. We had lots of short activities planned and the kids really enjoyed themselves.

Decorating a photo frame was one of the activities. Earlier I had taken a group shot in the back garden and printed six copies. Here we see the result of Youri, the one boy in the group. Youri and Inge have been best friends ever since they both were in the same group in the daycare centre. They weren't even one year old then and we have pictures of the two of them playing together.

On Monday, Youri told me that next school year he will be in a different school. They live in a village nearby. There is also a school there, but for Youri's parents it was more convenient that Youri went to Inge's school since he would also have to go there for after-school care. As of next year, that will all change...

Inge seems to be OK with it, but I must admit it sort of broke my heart to hear that they won't be together anymore next school year. Youri really doesn't like it either. He is really fond of Inge. One of the decorations Youri put on the frame is the crown on Inge's head. "Because Inge is a princess", he said. And one of the gifts Youri gave was a framed picture of himself, which he also decorated. His mom told Martine that he worked really hard on that gift. He is such a great kid. I hope he and Inge will still play together from time to time but we'll see how that evolves...
