Saturday 23 July 2011: Battle
Today we popped in to Hastings to pick up Leila from the station, and then had a look around the town. It's lovely! The Old Town in particular is very quaint and picturesque.
In the afternoon we went to the town of Battle, which is the site of the Battle of Hastings, and went round Battle Abbey and saw the field where the battle took place (although there's a bit more to it than just a field...) The Abbey is in ruins now so it's quite hard to picture what it looked like back in the day, but I loved this little staircase; I like to think it's full of mystery!
