Tuesday 22 April 2008: Speed

Today's blip was going to be a rant about a video posted on the BBC site, titled 'crackdown on dangerous driving'. It included several pieces of video shot from a police speed camera van of fairly serious looking accidents caused by speeding drivers slamming on their brakes when they spotted the van and losing control.

It didn't seem to strike the reporter that, while the speeding drivers probably were breaking the law, the presence of the van itself was a major contributing factor to these accidents - had the police not been there fining people, none of these crashes would have happened.

I'd provide a link, but the BBC have removed the video. I'd like to think that's because a quick google search for 'BBC dangerous driving video' provides links to many other people saying exactly the same as what I've said above - police 'safety' cameras clearly cause nasty accidents.

Anyway, I'd have had to drop that story myself because Bella started walking this evening. Properly - right around the house and back. So, by way of a tenuous link, here's a picture of her sitting on top of Layla's (very un-speedy) car.
