Broken City

Its a while since I drove through our broken city. Today I tried to cross from our side of town to the other, a distance of about 5 km, and spent 45 mins getting half way there and did a u turn and went on to the next appointment instead.
The problem is that the central city is still closed and everyone has to travel on a square pattern around the centre which is increasingly impossible with the congestion and frustration that this is causing.
This is a view down our "High" Street, which is normally a bustling centre of the inner city retail and polytechnic hub, but is now abandoned and silent. Cranes are a new skyline reality and I will probably try and get some more more blips of before the era is complete. The tall building on the right here is scheduled for demolition but we have not heard a definite date yet. Some American company is believed to be involved as it is not something us Kiwi's have had to spend a lot of time doing, as our land is so new and cities so young.
