A simples food chain

A common shrew has died during the night and by midday is already studded with blowfly eggs. Which brings me to Aleksandr Orlov's short, but quite excellent new book: A young meerkat's guide to food-chain ecology. The full text reads:

Shrews eat flies, and then the flies eat the shrews. Simples!
