Saturday 20 August 2011: A tribute from the town

This is the Oban Burgh Civic Chain, being worn today by Argyll & Bute Provost Billy Petrie at the memorial event for Cllr. Donald Macdonald which was held in the town's disused Phoenix Cinema. Amongst many other roles, Donald chaired the Board which is trying to revive the cinema, so was very fitting location. Lots of people from the town, the county and further afield turned up to pay their respects at what was a moving, but very positive, remembrance.

Billy's decision to wear the Oban chain was a sensitive and touching one - the town formally acknowledging one who had done so much in the brief period he had as one of its most hard working representatives.
