Almost too much excitement

The day didn't start well when I bumped my head on the low beam in our bedroom after having managed to avoid it for several days. Then Terry discovered that the business end of his ignition key had parted company with the fob and disappeared out of the small hole in his trouser pocket. It was almost like.....looking for a needle in a haystack. Lots of long grass where he'd been playing with the little 'uns, bedding, clothing, a whole sackful of rubbish (eew!). Fiona had already been on to the AA when Terry himself found it, in the long grass.

Then three cars-full of us set out for Maastricht (only about 20 miles) which should have been a nice wee jaunt. Maastricht is a handsome town full of lovely old buildings, but a lovely sunny day had become unbearably humid and after wandering about a bit we returned. Some folk went off to the swimming pool just over the border in order to cool off, whilst DaveH decided to go for a walk to find a castle he'd spotted from the car a couple of days back. After an hour or so the storm clouds gathered and an intense wind and rain storm started - so much so that Bart offered to go out in his car and look for Dave. We found the castle (by which time the storm had abated) but didn't find D until we passed him on the way back, as he'd been sheltering in the woods during the worst of it. Soon afterwards the storm started up in earnest again, turning the farm track into a river and flooding one of the rooms in the small house - Charlotte's bed and belongings were soaked. This was part of the same storm that caused deadly damage at the Pukkelpop festival.

When the swimmers returned they said they'd had a lovely time apart from Annie slipping over and banging her head, and had been unaware of the storm until they got outside.

We had something to eat, finished up the Dutch beer that everyone had been avoiding and played at Werewolves for a while to calm ourselves down.
