Sunny sunday lunchtime

Another mad, showery day but between the showers me and Rol went for what, these days, is a rare treat of a couple of pints at our local pub.

He starts a PGCE course in a few weeks time which will mean he will be spending part of each week in London. It'll be tough in several ways but at least we will have a bit of extra money, and in ten months he'll have a usable qualification which - hopefully - will mean he'll be able to earn a reasonable living in the post-compulsory education sector. We expect that it's likely to be from various pieces of freelance teaching rather than a regular 9-5 post. We shall cross that bridge when we come to it but, for now, take one step at a time.

This does, of course, mean that for 10 months he will not be conducting any funerals or other ceremonies - although one of our friends has already booked him to do his wedding next summer, which is lovely.

We talked about a couple of nice things that we've got planned between now and mid-September: a camping weekend in Bungay to celebrate the birthday of one of the women who sings in the Sing with Pride choir - that's bound to be full of music, song and stuff like rounders, footie and poker then there's the absolutely fantastic, can't-recommend-it-highly-enough free street theatre festival in Great Yarmouth on 17th September: Out There - absolutely world class and always as good as anything I've seen on mainland Europe.

Roland is lovely: after I'd been practising my ukelele for a couple of hours this morning I asked 'does it sound like music?' to which he replied 'it sounds like a beginner practising. With great enthusiasm ....'

And yes, Goateebooknerd I have heard the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain - I could never begin to imagine playing with more than 2 or 3 other people at a time!
