Saturday 3 September 2011: Sunset near the Greendale Fault

I'm at the hunter's tonight. That puts me less than 1km from the Greendale Fault that ruputured a year ago tomorrow. Let's hope it doesn't celebrate with 1 year anniversary with a jiggle ;-)

You can see a little of the neighbour's roofline. It's a new house under construction but it can't be finished. It doesn't matter that it's built to a rigorous building code, in fact it goes beyond it. No one in Canterbury between Kaikoura and Timaru can get new insurance.

So the house can't be finished because as it stands the builder's insurance covers materials to the point it's built to, and a family of Mum, Dad and 3 girls will spend another 1-2 years living in shipping containers.

Welcome to Canterbury, New Zealand where the re-build is a little slow.
