400 - the road trip

woohoo - I've reached 400 blips! this anniversary is slightly overshadowed today though as we've been off on a road trip down to glasgow for the scottish new music awards where the lorelei were nominated in two categories - best traditional/folk recording and album of the year.

we had such a good time in the car with our cocktails and ' I visited the sex shop and bought a...' game but all expectations of a classy awards ceremony went out the window when we arrived at the (not so) classic (not so) grand in glasgow. this was the first ever scottish new music awards - so everyone attending had no idea what to expect.

the compere was awful, the live acts mostly covers from folk who had in the distant past been on one reality tv show or other (early rounds) - and awards were being handed out to folk who were all based in glasgow. the whole show was being broadcast on celtic music radio and was running ahead of time, so they filled in the gaps with the compere (the campest man on earth) doing covers like a bad x-factor audition. the whole thing was a really awful and embarrassing representation of the Scottish music scene - and tellingly most of the folk that had won awards hadn't even turned up to get them. I heard that celtic music radio pulled the plug on the broadcast after a while, surely because it was so bad.

the lorelei didn't win their awards which was a shame - but the evening was so shoddy that it didn't even matter. I suspect everyone in the Scottish music scene will be keen to distance themselves from this in the future.

our road trip was worth the journey though...thanks B, G, J, T & DD! now if you don't mind I must go and find some paracetamol...

thanks for the 400 - you blippers are ace!
