Plumbago

Two years ago I brought a single stem of plumbago back from holiday on the Greek Island of Paxos. Originally several little cuttings rooted and were nurtured over winter on my kitchen window sill.

They have had a long and hazardous journey to this stage. Firstly, as I carried the cuttings, newly potted up, into the garden I fumbled with the tray and uprooted them all.

Then I left them out over night and the frost got them.

There were no flowers last year and by this summer only three plants remained healthy so I put them all in one big pot. Finally this week the plant has two flowers, and has grown too big to come indoors this winter, I shall have to do clever things with gardener's fleece.
