Thursday 8 September 2011: God, So Much To Answer For
5.15 p.m. Church Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester
If a statement sums up a mindset of a city then this is it. The city that gave us Anthony Burgess, Anthony H. Wilson, Bernard Manning, Kevin Cummins, Shelagh Delaney, L.S. Lowry, Frank Sidebottom, John Thaw, Steven Patrick Morrissey and erm the Gallagher Brothers has always been an umcompromising, self-confident place and pretty tough too.For those interested in such facts, you can find this on the side of Afflecks
Though it has been extensively redeveloped since I used to venture here as a teenager, I still feel it's lost none of it's gritty charm. Sadly, Salford feels a little bit sterile as many area's of industry and poverty are now. It feels a long way from Shelagh Delaney's Salford
