Sunday 11 May 2008: Mommy
Did you know that they have these little hearts in white? This is the first time I've ever seen them.
Today for Mother's Day, my family went to the arboretum. This is one of my favourite places in the world...right up there with Assisi and Quebec City.
The pink house you see in the background is "my house". Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had a strange attraction to this house, like a gravitational pull. I'm pretty sure it is the architecture of the roof, or the cozy pink colour.
I was going to post a picture of my grandmother, because, after all, it is Mother's Day, and she is the grand matriarch of the family. I took a candid of her that looks absolutely lovely in black and white...but she was furious with me for doing so. For some reason she has this idea that she is not photogenic? So I decided to respect her wishes and not post it. But I would just like to point out, for all of blip to know...She is the most beautiful woman in the world.
I got this particular picture of her while the family was playing a big game of frisbee and tackle football. She was sitting on the bench watching and I thought she might be a little lonely or bored, so I left the game and joined her. She was watching the game with this tiny, thoughtful smile on her face and said "This is the happiest moment of my life." I was surprised, because she wasn't even playing the game...just watching. And then she said, "I never thought I would see my children playing together again."
You see, there has been conflict between the Tieman children for years. A once close-knit group of kids became adults that wouldn't even speak to each other, let alone play a game of frisbee. And now...well, let's just say, things have been changing for the better!
I couldn't afford a mother's day gift this year...but I guess, I can give my mom
something that doesn't cost any money- a promise that she will always be able to watch my brothers and me play together, no matter what.
Love you Mommy.
