Movin' Out

Last day in our current office today and didn't get a lot of actual work done. What I did get done consisted of copying stuff to backup drives, setting up environments on VDIs, sellotaping StevieFish's mouse to the window and generally packing up the contents of my desk to be moved down the road. Since being bought over by Standard Life a few years back, there's been talk of moving on to SL premises for a while, but we got word a few months ago that we're moving to Annandale Street - not corporate HQ, like we had initially been told (and which would have been slightly more bearable).

In terms of our office, the architecture might be dated, the A/C might not work, we might not have a canteen and the lift might sometimes get stuck in between floors, but it's our office. It's right bang in the middle of town, where it lacks in the canteen area it makes up with a kitchen (with a sink, microwave, 2 fridges and a kettle no less!), we don't have to use crappy VDIs, we can access GMail, we don't have a dress-policy, we can listen to iTunes and there are a good number of windows providing natural daylight. I don't think many folk are looking forward to the move - we'll just need to see how it goes on Monday I guess...
