Thursday 22 September 2011: Demo Day Number 2
This is what your new ensuite bathroom looks like when it has been
1; slammed by an earthquake and
2, subject to a "deconstruction" by demolition crews prior to the arrival of the diggers and bulldozers.
We are very glad that they are taking care to take things away and hope that they will be re sold and used by someone else who will appreciate them. Much much better than the first proposal which was to put the whole lot into big trucks and dump everything together. The enviromental impact of that scenario was too horrible to contemplate, particularly as we knew that everyting was new and in top working order.
We did hear the same demolition company were doing a city block which included a bathroom specialist supplier. We heard that they were required by the insurance company to smash all the stock and dispose of it. They ended up smashing boxed undamaged items of all kinds and had an observer to ensure that nothing was removed intact. They did not enjoy that and the logic behind that is just incomprehensible. I would rather give it away than just wantonly destroy things for the sake of insurance fine print.
Bizarre world at times like these.
