Laggan Wolftrax

It's been a while since we were up at Laggan, the last being rather disastrous in a breaking stupid little components which frustratingly meant we (I) had to stop riding to walk back to the shop.

On route to Laggan we stopped off at the mountain cafe for some smooth coffee and excellent bacon and black pudding roll, not exactly the best of foods before cycling, but hey!

Once at the trails the usual bike fettling began (when will we learn?) with me nervously bleeding some brake fluid from the brakes to fit new pads, something I could have done without doing due to not having any spare fluid if i got it wrong!

Eventually we headed off up the hill to ride the lower red, coming across the usual nervous, will i wont i? riders at Ayres Rock, despite looking like a granite slab of death, its very easy to ride, just point the bike down, get the weight back, then soak up the compression as the trail levels out at the bottom, after the first time you wonder what all the fuss was about!

Back at the car park we decided to head back up to have a quick blast on the fun park before lunch, almost coming a cropper on the way down as since we were there last they have changed the middle section of the fun park, adding a few more pop jumps and just improving the flow of the trail, its an absolute blast!

Our appetite was satisfied by some hot, fresh chocolate cake, followed by some monster beans on toast, and yes, we did eat it in that order!

Back on the trail we could have expected some wind assistance from lunch to power us up the hill, however with a belly full of cake and beans it proved the opposite, until we got half way up that was and i decided to blast up to the top of the upper red, arriving weary with wobbly legs. The descent was the usual flat out, sprinting madness, with a narowly avoided crash on some rocks by me, locking up both back and front brakes as I arrived at a rock path, how I stayed upright I have no idea!

We then headed back to the fun park for two more blasts down the new, improved and much more, well, fun trail.

We got back to the car knackered after the 3-4 hours of riding, and had a rather nice cruise back to Aberdeenshire along some sunny Speyside Roads.
