Kiosk

I love newspaper kiosks in foreign cities; you don't really get them in the UK. They are always so colourfully detailed and I nearly always stop not just to inspect their contents but to observe them as fulcra of everyday life in their respective communities.

This is the back of one in Rua Santa Clara, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, mid-morning with that lovely dappled light that makes a stroll out for coffee (and this morning a plunger - don't ask!) such a joy.

The artist figured is Gilberto Gil (I think!), singer and former culture minister, who has just produced an album with ten Bossa greats, he himself being referred to as an idol! Maybe worth a listen.
